May We Honor – Pentecost Sunday

Sermon Title: We are Gathered Here Today

Introduction

  • Today’s focus: The birth of the Church on Pentecost.
  • Reflect on the significance of Pentecost as the birthday of the Church, often overlooked in comparison to Christmas and Easter.
  • Introduction to the Church’s purpose and mission as given by God, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

1. The Church Exists for God – Acts 2:1-4

  • The church was created by God, not by human effort. It is His Church, and we are participants in His plan.
  • The formation of the church at Pentecost was orchestrated by God, evident in the coming of the Holy Spirit.
  • Emphasize the importance of focusing on God rather than personal preferences within the church.

2. The Church Exists for Those Far from Christ – Acts 2:5-8

  • The mission of the church is to communicate God’s love to those far from Him.
  • At Pentecost, the apostles were empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak in various languages, enabling them to reach a diverse audience.
  • Encourage the congregation to embrace the mission of evangelism, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

3. The Church Exists for Each Other – Acts 2:37-41

  • The church is a community designed to support and equip one another.
  • The early church’s exponential growth was due to their devotion to teaching, fellowship, prayer, and communion.
  • Foster a sense of community and support within the church, emphasizing the importance of collective growth and mission.
