The Pastor Notes
Title: Eyes Up

Relate

  • Begin with a brief personal story about losing focus on what matters, using the example of my daughter wandering off while I was distracted.
  • Highlight how easily we can lose sight of what’s truly important in our lives.

Resonate

  • Acknowledge that many of us have been distracted by life’s challenges, causing us to lose focus on our relationship with God or our purpose.
  • Emphasize the need to stay focused on what truly matters, even in the midst of life’s storms.

Refocus

  • Fear: Discuss how fear can paralyze us, using Matthew 14:22-27, where Jesus calms the disciples’ fear during a storm.
  • Distractions: Explain how distractions can pull us away from our purpose, illustrated by Peter losing focus on Jesus and sinking in Matthew 14:29-30.
  • Doubt: Address how doubt can cause us to lose faith, referencing Psalm 46:1 as a reminder that God is our refuge in times of trouble.

Respond

  • Challenge the audience to reflect on where they’ve allowed fear, distractions, or doubt to take their focus off Jesus.
  • Encourage them to refocus their eyes on Jesus, trusting Him to guide them through their storms.

React

  • Remind everyone that their breakthrough is within reach if they keep their focus on Jesus.
  • Close with a prayer, asking for the strength to stay focused on Jesus and walk in the breakthrough He has prepared for us.
